These 10 New Jersey Towns Are Losing Wealth, Data Shows
The following towns saw the biggest drop in median household income between 2012 and 2022, according to census data.
NEW JERSEY — New Jersey is the home of many of the nation's richest, with many towns only increasing in wealth in recent years, data shows. But not all towns in the state are getting richer.
According to data from the U.S. Census American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates recently shared by New Jersey 101.5 and confirmed by Patch, the following towns saw the biggest drop in median household income between 2012 and 2022.
1. Delanco, Burlington County

Meanwhile, other New Jersey towns have seen significant growth over the past decade — with Saddle River, Elk, and Sea Girt growing 127 percent, 120 percent, and 113 percent, respectively.
Short Hills and Rumson consistently rank among the richest towns not just in New Jersey, but in the United States. According to a 2020 report, Short Hills ranked 6th with a median household income of $388,760, and Rumson ranked 12th with a median household income of $337,696.
By comparison, the median household income in New Jersey between 2018 and 2022 was $97,126 — and that's still more than $20,000 higher than the 2022 national average of $74,580, according to census data.
