These 10 Towns In NJ Have Gotten Much Richer, Data Shows

New Jersey is a wealthy state, with 15 percent of households earning more than $200,000 annually. But some towns are growing at warp speed.

NEW JERSEY — New Jersey is the home of many of the nation's richest — with nearly 15 percent of all New Jersey households earning more than $200,000 annually. But some towns are richer than others, and certain towns are only getting wealthier.

Short Hills and Rumson consistently rank among the richest towns in the United States. According to a 2020 report, Short Hills ranked 6th with a median household income of $388,760, and Rumson ranked 12th with a median household income of $337,696.

By comparison, the median household income in New Jersey between 2018 and 2022 was $97,126 — and that's still more than $20,000 higher than the 2022 national average of $74,580, according to census data.

Meanwhile, over the past decade, many New Jersey towns have evolved, and with evolution can come growth. Perhaps the next wealthiest New Jersey town could still be on its way up the ranks.
