2-Car Crash Causes Gas Leak In Manahawkin: Police
The fire department cleaned up gas in the roadway, as both vehicles sustained significant damage.
MANAHAWKIN, NJ — A two-car accident put disabled vehicles in the roadway and caused a gas leak Monday morning in Manahawkin, police said. The Stafford Township Volunteer Fire Department cleaned up the gas on Route 9.
Both drivers were believed to be wearing seatbelts, and no injuries were immediately reported.
A Barnegat man was traveling north on Route 9, approaching Silo Road at about 9:05 a.m.. He attempted to go around a vehicle on the shoulder of the roadway, police said.

The struck vehicle, driven by a Manahawkin man, was in the process of turning left onto Silo Road. Gas leaked from the Manahawkin man's car because of the impact.
Both cars sustained significant damage and were towed. Police directed Route 9 traffic through the scene for about a half hour.

Patrolman Jillson is the investigating officer, and the accident is still under investigation.
Sergeant Schiattarella, Officer Samaritano and Stafford Township Volunteer EMS also assisted on scene.
