2 Manahawkin Crashes Cause Hospitalizations: Police

One crash overturned a vehicle, and the other resulted in charges for careless driving, according to police.

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Two Friday crashes caused hospitalizations and extensive vehicle damage, according to Stafford police. In one crash, a woman was charged with careless driving, police said.

A Manahawkin driver crashed into a stopped vehicle, causing a three-car crash on Route 72 near Breakers Avenue, police said. Brianna Matullo was driver west on Route 72, not seeing traffic ahead, according to police.

Matullo, 25, crashed into the back of a 2012 Honda CRV, police said. This plowed both vehicles into a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, according to officials.

The driver of the CRV and her passenger were taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center for Treatment. All three vehicles were heavily damaged.

Matullo was charged with careless driving, police said.

Vehicle Overturned Near Walmart

A two-car crash caused one vehicle to flip onto its roof at 10:18 p.m. Friday on Martin Truex Jr Boulevard near Walmart, police said. A woman exited the BJ's parking lot and was crossing over toward Walmart when a 2013 Ford CMX hit her vehicle, police said.

This caused the vehicle to rotate clockwise until it tipped over and rested on its roof within the Walmart driveway. The woman suffered a head injury and was airlifted to the Atlantic City Trauma Center, where she was listed at stable condition.

The man in the CMX sustained a back injury and was taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center.

The crash is under investigation. Patch chose not to reveal identities of those involved because police have not announced charges.
