In the wake of Tuesday’s daylong outage of cable and internet service that affected much of Ocean County, including Toms River, Comcast has announced it will be issuing a credit to all affected customers.
“We are very sorry about the recent interruption to Xfinity services in some Jersey Shore areas,” Jeff Alexander, vice president of public relations for Comcast’s Freedom Region, which includes New Jersey, said via email Wednesday morning.

“We know customers rely on us and we fell short of their expectations. As an apology, we are automatically crediting $5 to all customers who were impacted. They do not need to do anything to receive the credit – it will appear on one of their next bills.”
Alexander on Tuesday said a software issue that affected network feeds resulted in the service interruption to customers in “the central and northern Jersey Shore,” but he could not give a number of how many customers were affected.

The outage in some areas started overnight Monday into Tuesday, with the bulk of those affected losing service between 9 and 9:30 a.m. Service was not restored for many until between 4 and 5 p.m.
