BARNEGAT, NJ — Did you know a piece of Revolutionary War era history lives on here in Barnegat? While the American Revolution's last major conflict was the Battle of Yorktown, there were dozens of small skirmishes leading up to the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783. The last of these was apparently in Barnegat, according to officials.
On Dec. 27, 1782, "the Affair at Cedar Bridge" happened when Loyalist John Bacon battled with the Burlington Militia. You can read more about it here.
Now, the Ocean County Department of Parks & Recreation is hosting their 19th commemoration of the Affair ahead of its 240th anniversary.
