STAFFORD, NJ — The local nonprofit "Family Promise of Southern Ocean County" is changing its name and expanding its reach to be county-wide.

Now called "Family Promise of the Jersey Shore," the group seeks to assist all families in Ocean County who face homelessness, the nonprofit's Board of Trustees announced in a release Monday.

“The name change accurately describes the area we serve,” said Board Chair Roberta Rapisardi, M.S.Ed, CPS. “This expansion allows us to apply for additional funding and invite community partners in a larger vicinage to help support our mission.”

Family Promise of the Jersey Shore will continue to help Southern Ocean County while expanding its prevention programs, emergency shelter system, support services and community initiatives to more families in a wider area, according to the release.

“As more families in Ocean County struggle with both homelessness and economic uncertainty, Family Promise of the Jersey Shore recognizes the need and has expanded their services in name and geographic footprint,” Executive Director Elizabeth Golla said.

Since the group started 14 years ago, it has welcomed more than 200 volunteers, welcomed 21 host congregations into its emergency shelter system, established partnerships with dozens of community organizations and, of course, has helped thousands of local families facing home homelessness and economic uncertainty.

“We are excited about strengthening and expanding our mission to help more families in all of Ocean County,” Golla added. “We are looking forward to this amazing opportunity to do more because every family deserves a home.”
