'Ghost Hunters' Show On Elizabeth V. Edwards School In Barnegat Coming Up

Results of four-day investigation done in January 2014 will run on Oct. 15 on SyFy Channel

Investigators from the popular SYFY channel show “Ghost Hunters” spent several days in January at the Elizabeth V. Edwards School on Route 9 in Barnegat, long rumored to be haunted.

And if Barnegat schools Transportation Director Bill Cox told you the results of the “reveal,” he have to kill you.

“I’m the only person that knows,” he said. ”I am contractually sworn to secrecy. But you will not be disappointed.”

The “Ghost Hunters“ group - including founder Jason Hawes - spent four days in Barnegat filming the show. Cox is on camera explaining to them some of the strange things that have occurred at the old school, the original Barnegat High School.

“I told them I wanted them to verify some of the things here,” Cox said. “Make sure there is nothing dangerous here.”

The investigation was “pretty amazing,” he said. “They took their time.”

The show will debut on Oct. 15, but there will be a private viewing and a possible Skype interview with one of the group members the same night at the American Legion Hall, Cox said

This wasn’t the first time the school has been been investigated. The South Jersey Paranormal Research Group visited the school last year and came up with voices and an image on film. Apparently it was enough to catch the attention of “Ghost Hunters.”

Susan Bove, founder of SJPR, said the school was “pretty active.”

“Are there spirits there? Yes.”

The group walked through every room of the school and the hallways, armed with flashlights, electronic voice recorders, EMF detectors and digital cameras.

Bove and the group members recorded at least six separate voices that night, all of them female.

Elizabeth V. Edwards – the school’s namesake – did not reply when group members asked if “Lizzie “ was there. But an EMF detector (electronic magnetic field) lit up when the question was asked.

Some of the voices responded to particular questions. Others seemed to be more residual in nature, meaning they weren’t in direct response to a question, just leftover energy from past events, Bove said.

One residual voice said “wrong defense.” Another said “Go Bengals.” That’s particularly telling because the 80-year-old school was the original Barnegat High School.

Group members also captured “mists” on camera in some areas of the school, including the old auditorium.
