Hundreds Gather To Witness Relighting Of Barnegat Lighthouse
Old Barney was lit again with its new beacon light, and the State Park Service shared photos for those who missed the ceremony.

BARNEGAT LIGHT, NJ — It's been closed for months and covered in scaffolding all summer, but now, Old Barney finally is lighting up the Long Beach Island sky once more.
Hundreds gathered at the Barnegat Lighthouse on Oct. 29 for the official relighting, according to the New Jersey State Park Service.
A brand new beacon light was installed and shone brightly for the first time this past weekend.

It was followed by a "Campfire Storytelling" event, hosted by Ocean County Parks.
The lighting came after an extensive $1.3 million renovation project. The work included "a complete exterior restoration of the lighthouse, masonry recoating and repairs to the brick facade, interior lantern steel platform repairs, roof repairs and the installation of new windows," according to the Department of Environmental Protection.

Constructed in 1856, the Barnegat Lighthouse is one of the signature destinations along the Jersey shore and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
