Jersey Shore Fire Company Collecting Supplies For Helene-Ravaged Areas

SURF CITY, NJ — A Jersey Shore fire department is paying things forward by collecting donations to send to parts of western North Carolina ravaged by Hurricane Helene.

Surf City Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 and the local EMS announced they are collecting supplies for areas that were damaged by the destructive and deadly storm.

Cole Home Construction and NJ Aero Club joined forces to transport much-needed items to the area via private planes, and Tuckerton Lumber Company has donated the use of a Surfbox to collect the items and take them to the airport, firefighters said.

Supplies will be collected at the firehouse (713 North Long Beach Blvd., Surf City) this weekend:

  • Oct. 4: 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Oct. 5: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Oct. 6: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or until container is full

As the items are going by private plane, the fire company asks that no water is donated, due to weight constraints. They request the following items:

  • First Aid Supplies- bandaids, gauze, dressings, etc.
  • Flashlights and Batteries
  • Diapers, Wipes, Baby Food, Formula, powdered milk
  • Depends, Ladies Feminine products including pads and tampons
  • Toiletries
  • Canned or pouch tuna, chicken, salmon
  • Granola/breakfast bars
  • Dry cereal
  • Jerky
  • Dog/cat food in smaller bags
  • Liquid IV

"Please no clothes, toys, linens or other non emergency type donations," the fire company said. "We need to save the space for what is desperately needed."

The fire company thanked everyone for their kindness.

"After Sandy, it is our turn to pay it forward," they said.
