Lighthouse International Film Festival to Host Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality Returns for the second year exclusively for ALL ACCESS PASS holders. Virtual reality technologies are constantly pushing into exciting new ground, bringing new ways to enhance our ability to perceive the world that surrounds us, telling stories in ways familiar and not, and can change how we interact with the world around us.

LIFF’s VR section will be open for you to come by at your leisure, whether for 10 minutes to try one experience or a longer period to try them all. Our experienced VR programmers have scoured the landscape for the best, most innovative and exciting experiences for you to try out, a unique array of interactive, documentary, animated and narrative virtual reality journeys. Once you experience it, you’ll be hooked.

The Lighthouse International Film Festival is excited to bring back our 2nd year of virtual reality films. They will be available to watch on a first come, first served basis. Each film lasts approximately 5 to 15 minutes and can be watched at any point (space permitting) during the scheduled time block. Come on by and check out some of the most cutting films around! -The Virtual Reality Experience-

Title: Chocolate

synopsis: Presented by Viacom NEXT and set to the song by Giraffage of the same name, Chocolate drops you as a robot into a world of colorful chrome in which everything is heavily synchronized to the music. Your hands transform to cannons that spray cute chrome cats in slow motion to a tribe of people that are performing a ritualistic dance just for you, their robot god, to provide them with their precious resource, the cute lil' shiny kitties. Your hands transform into pulse speakers that shoot giant shock waves out into the vast deforming chrome landscape. There's also a herd of giant cat heads in migrating in the distance & a massive tribal chief cat that assists in the ritual by spraying champagne all over you in slow motion like a rap video. Everything is shiny and glimmering, smooth and sexy, cute and strange, overwhelming and astonishing.

Title: Denoise

Denoise is a journey of words, sounds and geometries in which to get lost. The virtual-reality experience allows viewers to immerse themselves in words to which it would be hard for them ever to have access in their own lives.

An oil field in Texas, the engine room of an ocean- going freighter, an immense anechoic chamber in Switzerland. These places are at the root of our daily existence because the objects which we love to fill our lives with begin and end their journey in just these isolated and unfamiliar worlds, through a process of creation, transport, validation and destruction. The protagonists of the film lead solitary and silent existences, remote from our own lifestyle, but their confessions make us feel part of a single design. Denoise is one of the satellite projects of the feature-length Beautiful Things and is part of the multidisciplinary project Beautiful Things, a way of investigating, though different means of expression, unfamiliar but fundamental people and places.

Title: Kiss Me

Synopsis: This “new-style” music video from Japanese rap/pop group P.O.P. was “created with the latest VR & 3D sound technology.” Captured 3D live-action images combined with 3D animation and ”3D Sound” combining stereophonic and binaural recording comes together for a joyful, catchy music experience guaranteed to make you smile.

Title: Summation of Force

Synopsis: In a moonlit suburban backyard, two brothers battle one another in an otherworldly game of cricket in this stunning black and white live-action study of the motion, physics, and psychology of sport. Created by photographers Trent Parke and Narelle Autio, in collaboration with filmmaker Matthew Bate, this VR artwork offers a cosmic, darkly beautiful, and dreamlike metaphor for life.

Title: RONE

Synopsis: RONE is a distinctive portrait of the titular street artist, whose stunning large-scale portraits of women’s faces can be found adorning soon to be forgotten spaces, acting as a commentary on gentrification and the masculine realm of street art. The 360' film takes the viewer inside Rone’s world: we follow him into the rarely-explored spaces in which he works (an abandoned paper mill, a house set for demolition, a crumbling theatre), and learn about his unique philosophy on art and life.
