Manahawkin Woman Killed In Head-On New York Crash: Police

BARTON, NY — A Manahawkin woman was one of three people killed in a head-on collision in New York state in December, police said.

Sabrina M. Surita, 38, was identified as one of the victims in the Dec. 20 crash by New York State Police.

The crash occurred just before 1:30 p.m. in Barton, Tioga County, police said. A Toyota Highlander with four people in it, including Surita, crossed into the opposite lane while driving on State Route 34 and collided head-on with a Chevy Silverado that was heading south, police said.

Surita, who was in the back seat, was taken to Robert Packer in Sayre, PA with life-threatening injuries, police said. She died at the hospital.

A fundraiser for Surita had raised $10,000 as of Thursday afternoon.

"Sabrina brought light and love into the lives of everyone she met, and her sudden loss has left us heartbroken," the fundraiser reads.

The Toyota's driver, Janesa Lorenzo, a 42-year-old from the Bronx, was hospitalized in critical condition. Front seat passenger Delroy A. Christie, a 56-year-old from the Bronx, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Another rear seat passenger, 41-year-old Carlos M. Lorenzo from the Bronx, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Chevy, Gary Sinsabaugh, a 68-year-old from Athens, PA, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Investigation into the crash is ongoing by New York State Police.
