Police Address Potential Threat To Barnegat School District
A student made a threatening comment to another student, Barnegat police said.
BARNEGAT, NJ — There is no threat to the Barnegat Township School District following a reportedly threatening comment made by one student to another, police said.
"Recent social media posts have raised concerns about a potential threat to Barnegat schools," police said Thursday. "We want to provide accurate information and reassure our school community."
Administrators at Russell O. Brackman Middle School were made aware of the alleged verbal threat on Jan. 9, police said. Police were immediately notified and began an investigation, which found there was no actual threat to student safety, authorities said.

Recent social media posts renewed concern about the threat, police said.
"Barnegat officers are working closely with school staff and we are confident there is no existing threat or safety concern in our schools," Barnegat police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
"We respectfully ask that anyone with new or helpful information contact Barnegat Police directly and refrain from sharing unverified information on social media, as it can create unnecessary fear and confusion," police said.
