UPDATE: Nor'easter Floods LBI; Cops Urge Drivers To 'Avoid Flood Waters'

Some roads are already flooded, including Long Beach Boulevard, which is closed southbound from 32nd Street in Brant Beach.

Surf City police and other police departments on Long Beach Island are advising drivers that some roads are already flooded from the Nor’easter that is pounding Southern Ocean County.

Residents should expect heavy rain, flooding and high winds today. The next bay high tide today will occur around noon near the Causeway bridge.

“If you must drive, give yourself extra time to get where you’re going as some roads are already closed due to flooding,” according to a Nixle alert from the Surf City Police Department. ”Barnegat Avenue is currently closed at 4th Street due to flooding. Avoid flood waters if you love your car.”

Long Beach Township police are reporting heavy flooding on Long Beach Boulevard, which is closed southbound from 32nd Street in Brant Beach, according to a Nixle alert.

Police are advising motorists to use the back roads in Long Beach Township - including Ocean Boulevard, Beach Avenue and Atlantic Avenue.

“Avoid driving through flood waters as this may damage or disable vehicles,” the Nixle alert says. ”Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown. ”
