‘No Evidence’ Of Crashed Plane in Barnegat: Police
An aircraft sent a distress signal to the FAA in a rural area west of Warren Grove Tuesday afternoon, according to police.
BARNEGAT, NJ — Authorities said there was “no evidence” of a crashed airplane in Barnegat after they received a distress signal Tuesday afternoon.
Stafford police said Tuesday that the department “received an unconfirmed report of a crash of a small aircraft in the western portion of our township.”
Barnegat police said they received a report from Joint Base McGuire that a single Emergency Locator Transmittal (ELT) signal was reported in western Barnegat. McGuire officials reached out to Atlantic City Airport, but not ELT signal was detected there at the time, police said.

“Despite extensive search efforts, no evidence of an aircraft in distress was found,” Barnegat police said.
Stafford police also said there was no further evidence of a crash.

Police utilized a helicopter, drones, ATVs and officers on foot to search the area.
As of Tuesday evening, the source of the signal remains unknown, and no further reports of a downed plane or overdue aircraft have been found, Barnegat police said.
Stafford police said authorities will continue to investigate the signal’s cause.
