Sandy Contractor From Barnegat Gets 3 Years For Theft

The man had 19 victims from Stafford, Lacey, Toms River, Long Beach Island and Little Egg Harbor.

BARNEGAT, NJ — A former Superstorm Sandy contractor from Barnegat was sentenced to three years in prison for misleading his customers. George LaRosa also must repay his 19 victims a total of $456,650.

LaRosa, 50, pleaded guilty Sept. 16 to theft by failure to make required disposition. He entered contracts with 19 homeowners throughout Ocean County as owner and operator of GL Construction in 2014 and 2015.

Instead of making repairs, LaRosa used most of the money for personal possessions, closed his business and abandoned the homeowners in various stages of disrepair.
