'Stamp Out Hunger' With Barnegat Food Pantry

By leaving a bag of non-perishable food items near your mailbox, you can help support those in need in your community. Here's what to know:

BARNEGAT, NJ — Supporting those in need in your community is as easy as leaving a bag out this weekend.

May 13 marks the 31st annual Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. It's the country's largest one-day food drive and it makes it simple for residents to help out the Barnegat Food Pantry.

All you have to do is leave a bag of non-perishable food items near your mailbox on Saturday before your mail is delivered. The letter carriers do the rest - they'll collect these bags along their route and make a stop at the Barnegat Food Pantry with all of the donations.

People are encouraged to leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods, such as canned soup, canned vegetables, canned meats and fish, pasta, rice or cereal, Barnegat officials said in a Nixle alert.

Food pantries can run low on supplies heading into summer after winter donations are used up.
