Unlocked Car Thefts On The Rise In Stafford, Police Say
Police are urging residents to lock their cars and bring their keys inside to prevent being victims of theft.
STAFFORD, NJ — Car thefts are on the rise in Stafford and surrounding areas, police said.
In the past week, three vehicles have been reported stolen in Stafford, police shared in a public service announcement.
"Surrounding areas have also been inundated with these individuals, who are taking advantage of unlocked vehicles and stealing them," Stafford police said.

Not only did many of these thefts occur in broad daylight in public areas, they all have one thing in common - every car was unlocked with keys or key fobs left inside.
"This is an URGENT reminder to please lock your car doors and take your keys/key fobs inside with you," police said. "Don't give the opportunists the chance to take advantage of your mistake."

Police urge residents to call police via their dispatch center at (609) 597-8581 or call 911 if they see anything.
Stafford police also frequently share Facebook reminders of the "9 p.m. routine," encouraging residents to take valuables out of their cars, lock them, lock their exterior doors and turn on exterior lights.
