Spaces are still available for the Waretown Historical Society's tour through two local graveyards, which starts at dusk.

Much of Waretown’s rich history can be found simply by walking through two cemeteries in town, including one that dates back to the Revolutionary War.

And Adele Shaw, president of the Waretown Historical Society, hopes to impart some of that history during the Waretown Historical Society’s annual ‘Candlelight Ghost Tour’ on October 18. The tour, which begins at dusk, will focus on the Cedar Grove and Old Waretown Presbyterian cemeteries.

Shaw, who can trace her family back to the 1600s, can’t get enough history.

She will be wearing appropriate period clothing for the tour.

“I have a whole Colonial getup,” she said. ”We use candle lanterns on poles.”

She tells “all kind of stories” about some of the people buried in the cemeteries, ship captains and shipwrecks.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children. The tour is limited to 75 visitors. Tour participants should meet at the Little Red Schoolhouse Museum at 5 p.m. for light refreshments on Oct 18. The tour gets underway at 5:30 p.m.

Proceeds from the tour go to scholarships the Historical Society gives each year to one male and one female graduate of Southern Regional High School each year.
