Several have been charged in package thefts this year in Stafford. In the holiday season, police are sharing tips to avoid being a victim.
STAFFORD, NJ — Many people are ordering a higher volume of packages than usual during the holiday season. Unfortunately, this makes it a prime time for package thefts. Stafford police are sharing advice to help residents from becoming victims.
Earlier in the year, several people were charged as part of a package theft sting operation in Stafford. Now, here's what police say you should know.
"These thefts are part of a coordinated criminal operation," police said. "Criminals fraudulently obtain tracking numbers for packages—often containing Apple iPhones—and sell this information to theft crews. These crews then target delivery addresses, racing to steal the package as soon as it's delivered."

According to police, all package thefts reported in Stafford have involved FedEx deliveries.

- Track Your Packages: Use official carrier tracking tools.
- Schedule Deliveries: Arrange deliveries for times when someone will be home.
- Use Secure Locations: Consider locker services or other secure delivery options.
- Install Security Cameras: Visible cameras deter thieves and assist with identification.
- Require a Signature: Opt for deliveries that require a signature.
- Notify Neighbors: Let trusted neighbors know about expected deliveries.
- Use Alternative Addresses: Send packages to work or other secure locations if you’ll be away.

"Stay vigilant, report suspicious activity, and let’s work together to protect our community this holiday season!" Stafford police said.
