198-Unit Housing Development Delayed, Granted Extension From Bernards Township
The housing project by Bernards Plaza Associates, LLC is the result of a affordable housing litigation settlement against the township.
BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A 198-unit housing development being constructed in Bernards Township is hitting some delays associated with COVID supply issues and has asked for an extension.
Bernards Plaza Associates, LLC asked the Bernards Township Planning Board for an extension of time to obtain its permanent Certificate of Occupancy(CO) at the Aug. 16 meeting.
The applicant, John Korn, had indicated he was hoping to finish with one of the two buildings by November but wasn't sure given the known supply chain shortages.

This housing project is among three projects that were the result of a settlement in March 2018 following an affordable housing litigation filed against the township by Affordable Housing intervenors, Bernards Plaza Associates, LLC and Crown Court Plaza, LLC.
In the settlement, the township agrees to allow Bernards Plaza Associates to build 198 residential units, including 15 percent set aside for units that are affordable to very low, low and moderate income households.
The development is being built at the abandoned A&P site in the Dewy Meadow Shopping Center.
