77-Year-Old Basking Ridge Man Hit By Car, Hospitalized
Victor Byalik was walking across Spring Valley Road at the intersection of Smithfield Court when he was hit by a Toyota Yaris on Saturday.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A 77-year-old Basking Ridge man who was walking in the township was hospitalized after being hit by a car on Saturday night.
On April 27 at 7:20 p.m., Victor Byalik was walking across Spring Valley Road at the intersection of Smithfield Court when he was hit by Mia Cazares, 49, of Basking Ridge who was driving westbound in a Toyota Yaris, according to the Bernards Township Police report.
Cazares said she was blinded by the sun glare as she went through the intersection and felt her car hit something. She didn't know what it was until Byalik landed on her windshield, according to the report.

Byalik suffered injuries to his right leg, hip and head. His right sneaker also came off during the crash, the report states.
Byalik was transported to Morristown Medical Center where he was placed in the intensive care unit (ICU) for a broken pelvis and brain hemorrhage, according to the report.

Bernards Township Police who responded to the scene confirmed the strong sun glare.
No summonses were issued.
