Basking Ridge Man ID'd As Pedestrian Hit By Train

NJ Transit has released the identity of the man who was hit by a Gladstone Branch train near the Basking Ridge station on Monday.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A Basking Ridge man was identified as the pedestrian hit and killed by an NJ Transit train on Monday.

The man was identified as Christopher P. O’Brien, 50, of Basking Ridge, said NJ Transit officials on Thursday.

On Dec. 18 at around 2:54 p.m., Gladstone Branch train 421 hit and fatally injured an adult male pedestrian, later identified as O'Brien, just west of Basking Ridge station, transit officials said.

The train had left Hoboken at 1:22 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Gladstone at 3:19 p.m.
There were no injuries reported to the about 10 customers or crew on board.

Service was temporarily suspended on the Gladstone Branch line in both directions between Bernardsville and Stirling, but has since resumed.
