Basking Ridge Nanny Found Guilty Of Abusing 9-Month-Old

The township baby was admitted to the hospital with a right femur spiral fracture, a fractured right tibia and a left ankle corner fracture.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A nanny caring for a Basking Ridge 9-month-old infant was found guilty of second degree endangering the welfare of a child and simple assault, a disorderly person’s offense, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson announced.

The verdict against Laura M. Gonzalez, 38, of Paramus, was returned on Aug. 16 following a trial in New Jersey Superior Court before the Judge Angela Borkowski.

Gonzalez is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 27.

On Nov. 23, 2017 authorities were notified that a 9-month-old Bernards Township child was admitted to the Morristown Medical Center with a right femur spiral fracture, a fractured right tibia and a left ankle corner fracture.

The infant's parents said the baby had been under the care of Gonzalez, who they hired through an internet-based service, according to the report.

An investigation by detectives with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Abuse Unit confirmed that the infant's fractures did occur while under the care of Gonzalez, according to the report.

Gonzalez has been held in the Somerset County Jail under an Order of Pretrial Detention since her arrest.
