BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Athena Bernaz, an 8th grade student from William Annin Middle School, is organizing a Dance-A-Thon on Feb. 22 to raise money and awareness of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and Chiari malformation.

Bernaz finds this charity close to her heart as she has a younger brother with EDS and Chiari.

Proceeds from the event will go to the family of Krissy and Zach Klein, whose four children age 8 to age 12 all suffer from this rare condition. The family is being denied medical care in their home state of Colorado, and the children are being cared for in New York City hospitals.

"I am proud to organize this event to raise awareness for Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and to help
the Klein family whose four children suffer from the disorder," stated Bernaz. "Their
two daughters have undergone numerous surgeries and life-threatening infections, and one is on
comfort care now."

The evening will include dance, games, music, and food, with prizes awarded for top fundraisers and best dancers. Registration is $30 per entry and children are encouraged to raise additional money through sponsors and donations.
