Bernards Township Seeks $250K Federal Grant For Stormwater Management
The township is requesting federal funds to address state-mandated updates to its stormwater management and watershed improvement plans.
BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The Township is applying for a $250,000 federal grant to support mandatory stormwater management projects.
The Township Committee approved a resolution at its March 10 meeting authorizing the submission of a grant request for fiscal year 2027 community project funding through the office of Representative Tom Kean Jr., who represents New Jersey's 7th Congressional District.
The township is seeking $250,000 in federal funds to cover professional engineering services required for environmental compliance. These services are necessary to align local operations with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection municipal stormwater regulations.

Specifically, the funding would support the updating of the township stormwater management plan, the preparation of a watershed assessment report, and a watershed improvement plan.
According to the project explanatory statement, the township is responsible for funding 20 percent of the total project costs.

Mayor Ana Duarte McCarthy said the Township has received letters of support from Senator John Bramnik, County Administrator Colleen Maher, Assemblyman Andrew Macurdy, and anticipates receiving another from Assemblyman Vince Kearney.
"Seeking county, state, and federal grants is a really important way to support capital projects, and we will continue to look for these opportunities throughout the year," said McCarthy.
