Whether your interest is in architecture dating back to the early 19th century, or institutions that once housed the poor, those convicted of crimes, and the destitute, or New York City Asylum for the Mentally Insane, one of the first institutions of its kind established in this country, you’ll find it here on Roosevelt Island. The lecture will cover the FDR Four Freedoms Park, Cornell Tech, Southpoint Park, the Smallpox Hospital (ruins), the Octagon, built in 1834 (formally referred to as the insane asylum), the recently restored island lighthouse and very latest attraction The Girl Puzzle Memorial (a tribute to Nellie Bly)!

This December 2026, Light Opera of New Jersey proudly presents Amahl and the Night Visitors, a heartwarming holiday opera. Directed by of Susan Speidel, with Music Direction by Thomas Juneau. 
Auditions will be in Basking Ridge, NJ. Registrants will be advised of exact location after registering. All roles are opened and paid.
Preliminary auditions will be held on August 27 and September 3 from 7 PM to 10 PM, with callbacks on September 5 from 2 PM to 5 PM. In-person auditions strongly encouraged, but videos will be accepted if you cannot make either of the preliminary audition dates. If called back, you must be available in person on September 5.
Auditions are open to PRE-REGISTERED actors only and must be done online in advance of the audition dates. Be prepared to upload your headshot and resume. Singing selections from the show is encouraged.
