Forest Fire Burning Scheduled In Basking Ridge Friday

This is the fourth prescribed burning in Bernards Township in less than a month.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The New Jersey Fire Service will hold another forest fire prescribed burning on Friday in Basking Ridge, the NJ Department of Environmental Protection announced.

The burning will take place at the West Lord Stirling in Bernards Township.

This is the second scheduled burning this week in the township. A prior one was conducted on Wednesday at Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. And this is the fourth burning in less than a month. On March 26 and 28 burnings were conducted at Lord Sterling Environmental Center.

This schedule is weather dependent and subject to change.

The primary purpose of prescribed burning in New Jersey is to reduce the hazardous accumulations of forest fuels. This aids in the prevention of wildfires, reduces the intensity of the fires, and also provides a foundation for safer, more effective fire suppression and protection operations, according to the NJ Fire Service.
