Mount Prospect School Hosts Second Annual S.T.E.M. Day

Parent and teacher presentations bring second annual S.T.E.M. day to life.

Mount Prospect School held their second annual S.T.E.M. Day on Friday, April 26th. The school had 24 different parent and teacher presentations in the area of science, technology, engineering, and math. Each class had a chance to visit four different presentations throughout the day. The event featured presentations such as structure building, coding, astro rockets, drawing bots, chemical reactions, robotics, programming, amazing flying machines, and information about the pharmaceutical industry.

The Bernards Township Shade Tree Commission visited Mount Prospect School. Attendees read the official proclamation in front of kindergarten students. Mr. Mike Zandel and Mr. Al Werner, members of the Shade Tree Commission, spoke about what the commission is for and why trees are so important. They brought a sapling for each kindergarten student to take home, plant, and hopefully take care of so it grows into a beautiful white pine.

Then, in the evening, fourth and fifth grade students presented and discussed their S.T.E.M. fair projects at the MPS annual Student Stem Fair. The school’s gymnasium was filled with future scientists enlightening the audience with their hypotheses and results. A team of Mount Prospect School’s teachers met with students several times to discuss their projects and offer feedback on how to design their experiments.
