The Songbird Sweeps Again!
On April 19th, the Songbird sweeps the streets of Collyer Lane, Finley Avenue, and Maple Avenue, ensuring a cleaner and safer community!
On Saturday, April 19th, the Songbird Youth Volunteer Group maintained Finley Avenue once again, walking through town and picking up waste on the side of the road. However, that day, they decided to take a detour down Collyer Lane and into Maple Avenue. In doing so, they discovered that there was an abundant amount of trash along those streets. According to the Songbird’s morals, they decided to adopt both Collyer Lane and Maple Avenue, hoping to leave a cleaner and safer tomorrow for Basking Ridge!
Overall, there were five volunteers and two parents who took part in the street sweeping. Although it was an oppressively humid and hot day, despite the muggy weather, the Songbird traversed through the streets of Basking Ridge with an upbeat attitude. Donned in orange vests and filled with boundless enthusiasm, the volunteers collected recyclables (such as water bottles and metal cans), as well as non-recyclable waste (cigarette butts, paper scraps, food wrappers).
There were also a couple of new volunteers that joined them in their journey. Along with the two native Ridge High School students, there were also 3 sisters all they way from Xaverian High School in Manhattan that decided to lend a hand, demonstrating that the Songbird even extends between states! With Easter on Sunday, paraded along the side of the street were signs regarding "Easter Egg Hunts". The Songbirds were also excited to partake in a different kind of hunt... garbage! All jokes aside, the Songbird Volunteer Group was elated and grateful to clean and maintain the streets of Basking Ridge.
From the Adopt-A-Road program to the senior home performances, the Songbird wishes to spread the love of community service with those around them. From the Songbird to you, we wish everyone a successful rest of the school year, and an incredible Spring!
