Tractor Trailer Pulls Down Wires, Causes Outage In Peapack

The transformer fell down onto the trailer causing it to explode. Power is not expected to be restored until 10:30 p.m. on Friday.

PEAPACK AND GLADSTONE, NJ — A tractor trailer got caught in utility wires in Peapack and Gladstone causing the pole and transformer to come toppling down and exploding on top of it early Friday morning.

The crash occurred at around midnight on Friday at the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Church Street in Gladstone, police confirmed.

The transformer exploded on top of the trailer and the driver had the "good sense to keep going to drag the trailer out from under transformer, keeping the trailer and contents from catching on fire," said Mark Milan, a Peapack resident.

This caused wires to come down and second pole to snap on the corner of Jackson Avenue and Mendham Road, Milan said.

There were no injuries reported, police say.

As a result, power is out for residents in the area. As of 9:20 a.m., 177 customers in Peapack and Gladstone are without power, according to JCP&L.

JCP&L expects power to be restored by 10:30 p.m. Friday.
