The win propels the Vikings boys team forward to next Tuesday's league final game against JP Case Middle School of Flemington, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Franklin High School, 500 Elizabeth St. in the Somerset section of Franklin Township.

After their own 27-17 win against Montgomery on Tuesday, the WAMS girls play today, Thursday, in a semifinal match-up at 4 p.m. against the Warren Middle School, to be played in the Warren Middle School gym, said Rita Zarabara, athletic coordinator for the middle school.

The girls' Vikings basketball team had an upset victory against Montgomery playing away against the Montgomery Cougars.

Getting off to a slow start on Wednesday, the boys Vikings were down 10-4 at the end of the first quarter, Zarabara said. The Annin team had many opportunities but couldn’t get the ball to drop when it mattered.

But the second quarter saw the team make strides and they finished with a halftime lead of 14-10. Dan Cimaglia, Zach Keller and Kevin Quigley led the way for the Vikings, Zarabara said.

In the second half, the Viking boys came out on the court with new composure and started moving the ball and hitting their shots, Zarabara said. The team finished the third quarter with a 42-21 lead, she said.

Brian Finn and Duncan Roberts contributed with key rebounds, while Brendan Quigley, Michael Rosmarin and Danny Doolan added key assists, Zarabara said.

In the fourth quarter, the WAMS team shared the responsibilities on the court with Sean Melville, Dan Skea, Tyler Starr and Jared Weinerman contributing to a widening lead over Montgomery, Zarabara said. Vikings Angad Singh and Ben Regulbai helped hold off the Cougars attempts to pull the game within reach, she said. The final score was 56-30, she reported.
