NUTLEY, NJ — Nutley police are warning local vehicle owners to remember to lock up in the face of a recent cluster of auto burglaries reported in the township on Labor Day.
According to a Nutley Township news release, police first discovered the series of burglaries while responding to a call from a North Spring Garden Avenue home around 6 a.m. on Monday. On arrival, the homeowner told officers that he allegedly saw a male suspect inside his parked vehicle. The resident told officers that when he yelled, the suspect fled the scene in a silver sedan with a loud exhaust system towards Alexander Avenue.
After speaking with the homeowner, the responding officers then discovered that almost 20 other vehicles in the area had been entered between 2:20 and 6 a.m., and that a range of items had been stolen, including loose change, binoculars and GPS units.
