Assemblywoman Speight Earns 'Legislator of The Year' From NJ PBA
A state lawmaker who represents Belleville and Newark was recently named "Legislator of the Year" by the New Jersey State PBA.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ -- A state lawmaker who represents Belleville and Newark was recently named "Legislator of the Year" by the New Jersey State PBA.
Assemblywoman Shanique Speight, who represents the 29th district, earned the 2021 award in recognition of her work supporting New Jersey’s law enforcement officers and first responders, Democratic Party leaders said.

“I am truly honored to receive this award, but I am even more honored to be an advocate for New Jersey’s law enforcement officers and other first responders,” Speight said.
“I am extremely passionate about what I do both as a law enforcement officer, and as a legislator,” Speight said. “Being able to intersect my knowledge and skillsets from both roles to create sensible legislation is the driving force behind my work.”

“These men and women risk their lives to keep our communities safe and it is our responsibility to help protect them by making their well-being a priority,” the assemblywoman added. “I am proud of what we accomplished this legislative session to assist our law enforcement, and I thank the PBA for their support and recognition.”
