BE GREEN!! CELEBRATE EARTH DAY 2012

Nutley Parks & Recreation’s  Earth Day Celebration showcases that the environmental movement is alive and well and that the people of Nutley are engaged in making their communities healthier, safer and cleaner.   “The public turnout for last years event was tremendous with over 400 residents registered, we hope to exceed our expectations again in 2012 ” stated Mayor Mauro G. Tucci.

The Parks Department has announced plans for the fifth annual community clean up for project  “Earth Day 2012” on Saturday, April 21, 2012. This town wide, community clean up will take place under the direction of the Nutley Parks & Recreation Department.  “Our goal is to bring the community together and raise awareness of the effects that pollutants have on our environment.  Our water, air and ultimately the Earth are sustaining more and more damage with each year that passes” stated Mayor Mauro G. Tucci.    My staff along with the Department of Public Works staff will be stationed at each individual site beginning at 9:00 a.m., to guide volunteers on our mission.    A closing ceremony will be held at Kingsland Park at which time awards will be distributed and refreshments will be served.

CLEAN UP SITES
Various sites including but not limited to Memorial Park I and II, Kingsland Park, Nichols Park, Reinheimer Park, River Road, all school areas, Passaic Ave and various railroad track locations have been suggested for the clean up.   The Parks and Recreation Department welcomes suggestions from residents and business owners for other possible locations.

We are encouraging residents to make this a family event!  Bring your Mom, Dad, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles to make this a significant day in Nutley.  Individual flyers will be sent home through the school system to better outline this event.  All are invited to participate.

“We are making a commitment to the next generation by building awareness around issues that will help maintain and restore a healthy lifestyle for our community”.  As the fight for a clean environment continues, we need to educate the community and stress the importance of a clean, healthy, environment” stated Mayor Mauro G.
