Experts say that a decrease in school aid – or even a flat number – can trigger an increase in property taxes for a town's homeowners.
BELLEVILLE-NUTLEY, NJ — Nutley's schools will get an increase in funding under the latest state budget, but Belleville is going to see a cut in aid.
Gov. Mikie Sherrill's first proposed budget includes $12.4 billion for aid to the state's 574 public school districts. Belleville is in line to get $67,268,777 in state aid, down from last year’s $68,302,115 – a 1.51 percent decrease.

Nutley is in line to get $12,840,191 in state aid, up from last year’s $12,113,388 – a 6 percent increase.
