Nutley School Reopens After Fire, Gears Down From Virtual Learning
Lincoln School switched to virtual learning for a week after a fire. Students and staff returned to the building on Monday.
NUTLEY, NJ — A Nutley school is back in action after temporarily switching to virtual learning because of a fire.
On Monday, students and staff returned to Lincoln School for their first day of class after a fire closed the building on Oct. 9. Nobody was injured in the blaze, as the building was unoccupied at the time. However, the fire caused significant damage, authorities said. After the fire, the school pivoted to a state-approved virtual learning plan. Wi-fi devices were offered to local families who needed them.

“Crews were at Lincoln today, assessing and testing the environmental air quality, and beginning remediation,” school administrators said after the fire. “The safety of our staff and students is our top priority and, at this time, all groups are working towards reopening Lincoln to staff and students on Monday, October 16.”
Things are still slowly ramping up as school operations return to full speed, officials said in an update on Sunday:

“Staff will have a regular day and students will operate on a delayed opening schedule, which begins at 10 a.m. Extended Day Before and After Care will NOT run on Monday, but will begin operating again on Tuesday, October 17. An email was sent on Friday with more detailed information. Staff and parents should check their email.”
