Several Cars Stolen In Nutley; Left Idling Near Stores: Police

Nutley police are warning residents to lock their vehicles and turn off their engines.

NUTLEY, NJ — Nutley police are warning residents to lock their vehicles and turn off their engines as car burglaries and thefts continue to be reported in the township.

The Nutley Police Department released the following advisory on Monday:

“Nutley police continue to warn residents to lock their vehicles. Residents have reported numerous thefts from their vehicles over the past few weeks, most vehicles left unlocked. Additionally, police warn that several vehicles that have been left idling near convenience stores have been stolen. Please turn off engine lock doors when leaving vehicle unattended.”

Nutley police said that motion detection lighting at homes may serve as a deterrent to thieves.

Earlier this year, public safety officials said nearly nine of 10 stolen vehicles in Nutley are left idling, unlocked or with the key fob inside.
