Six people were killed early Saturday in a two-vehicle crash as they were heading toward New Jersey, police said.
The accident, which happened in Caroline County, Virginia occurred on Interstate 95 northbound at the 112.4 mile marker around 12:30 a.m.
Virginia State Police said Wenceslao Cruz-Marquez of Chicago was driving the van, which had 15 passengers, and no one was wearing a seat belt. The group was on its way to New Jersey from North Carolina.

The accident happened when a 1998 Dodge van, traveling north on I-95, ran off the road to the left, came back to the right, moved across two travel lanes and struck a 2016 Toyota Camry in the right lane, police said.
After impact, the Toyota spun out in the road, and the Dodge van continued off the road to the right, over-correcting back left and overturning approximately five to six times, police said.

Six passengers in the van were ejected, police said.
The driver of the 1998 Dodge van and nine other passengers were transported to Mary Washington Hospital and Spotsylvania Regional Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the 2016 Toyota was not injured, police said.
The six passengers who were ejected included four males, one female and one juvenile, all of whom died at the scene. The van had a total of 16 occupants, police said.
The crash investigation is being assisted by the Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team and remains under investigation. The names of the deceased will be released pending next of kin notification.
