Bayville Man Arrested For Numerous Thefts And Burglaries

Joseph Caruso, 41, Loon Place, accused of stealing tools, contractor equipment and supplies, police chief says.

Berkeley Township police recently charged a Bayville man with the theft and burglaries of homes throughout the township and homes under construction, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

The thefts and burglaries occurred in April and May and included stolen tools, contractor equipment and supplies, the chief said.

Police arrested Joseph Caruso, 41, Loon Place, after a warrant was issued following an investigation that eventually led to him as a suspect and the identification of his white Ford pickup, the chief said.

Caruso and his truck were found by Berkeley detectives in the Sylvan Lakes neighborhood on May 25. He was taken into custody without incident, the chief said.

Caruso was charged with burglary and theft. Municipal Court Judge James Gluck set his bail at $7,500, DiMichele said. He was later taken to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, she said.

"This successful investigation is the result of information received from the public," DiMichele said. "As happened in this case, residents are urged to contact the police to report suspicious activity. Calls can be anonymous."

The investigation is ongoing, with more charges expected. Anyone with information is asked to call the Berkeley Township Police at 732-341-1132 x 611.
