Bayville Man Steps On Gas Pedal, Not Brake, Hits Two Vehicle And Two Houses

Thomas Renda, 24, exited his car, had an argument with another man, got back in the vehicle and stepped on the wrong pedal.

Uh-oh.

A Bayville man stepped on the wrong pedal after on argument with another man when he got back into his vehicle, then hit two other cars and two houses, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

The driver, Thomas Renda, 24, Helen Avenue, left his vehicle and argued with an unknown male. He left his vehicle in drive mode. When Renda was told his veicle was moving without a driver, he got back in the car and pushed the gas pedal instead of the brakes. His vehicle then struck two vehicles and two houses, the chief said.

Renda was issued a summons for careless driving and his vehicle was towed. Berkeley Township E.M.S., Manitou Fire Department, JCP&L, N.J. Natural Gas Company and a Berkeley Township Construction Department official responded, the chief said.
