Berkeley Drug Dealer Tries Fleeing On Scooter: Prosecutor

When officers approached William Manser, 44, he tried fleeing on a motorized scooter, according to authorities.

BERKELEY, NJ — An accused drug dealer in Berkeley Township was caught after he attempted to flee police via a motorized scooter, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.

A month-long narcotics investigation culminated on Nov. 20 with surveillance on a Berkeley Township home being used by William Manser, 44, to store and distribute illegal narcotics, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

When detectives saw Manser leave the house, they began to approach him. However, he tried to flee on a motorized scooter, Billhimer said.

It didn't work and Manser was quickly apprehended without incident, Billhimer said.

He had heroin, cocaine and oxycodone in his possession, Billhimer said. A search warrant was executed on his house where detectives seized additional drugs and paraphernalia indicative of illegal narcotic distribution, Billhimer said.

Manser was taken to Ocean County Jail where he remains pending a detention hearing.

Manser was charged with the following:

  • Possession of one half ounce or more but less than five ounces of cocaine with intent to distribute
  • Possession of less than one half ounce of heroin with intent to distribute
  • Possession of oxycodone with intent to distribute
  • Possession of cocaine with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public housing project
  • Possession of heroin with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public housing project
  • Possession of oxycodone with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public housing project
  • Resisting arrest
  • Wandering to obtain/distribute CDS
  • Possession of cocaine
  • Possession of heroin
  • Possession of oxycodone
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
