Berkeley Man Charged With Burglarizing His Neighbor's Homes In Senior Community
John Shubert was found with missing jewelry in his house, police chief says.

Berkeley Township police recently arrested a Carlisle Road man and charged him with burglarizing two homes on his street, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.
The Berkeley Township Police responded to a home on Carlisle Road in the Silver Ridge section of the township on June 23 on a burglary report. The home was entered through a window while the homeowners were away, the chief said.
Patrolman Warren Black arrived and an initial investigation was conducted. Berkeley detectives, including Detective William Somers responded to process the crime scene and conduct the follow-up investigation. Police discovered another home on the street had also been burglarized, DiMichele said."

"As a result of this swift and intensive investigation by officers and detectives, a suspect was quickly identified. This suspect, John Shubert 40, also of Carlisle Rd. was a neighbor of the victim," the chief said.
Shubert had specific and distinct pieces of jewelry in his possession which were identified by the victim, DiMichele said.

Police arrested Shubert at home. He was taken to police headquarters, where he was charged with burglary and theft. He was then taken to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River in lieu of $10,000 bail, the chief said.
