Berkeley Patch Readers Share Their Moon-Landing Memories
Many Berkeley Patch readers still remember the moon landing like it was yesterday.

BERKELEY, NJ — If you witnessed the moon landing, it's something you never forgot. As the 50-year anniversary approached, Berkeley Patch readers shared some stories about when they watched the Apollo 11 mission come to fruition on July 20, 1969.
Here were some responses:
"I was watching the moon landing with my Grandmother who was born and raised in rural Texas in the late 19th Century. She remember when the first automobile drove into town and people followed it around astonished that it moved without a horse. Many years later she sat in her living room watching a human being step out on the surface of the moon." - Harry M Costello

"I was coming home from a date with the man who would be my husband one day. We were supposed to be home by midnight and were running a few minutes late. When we got home my dad said both of you come in here and we thought we were in trouble for getting home late. We went into the house and my dad told us to sit on the sofa and we did so we were waiting for the lecture. Instead he said I want you both to watch this because you'll remember it for the rest of your lives. We watched the first step on the moon together with my mom and dad a moment I'll never forget. Now as an amateur astronomer it means more to me than ever." - Rosemarie Lahosky Spedaliere
"I was vacationing in Italy and staying at a bed and breakfast with a very nice Italian family. They were so excited about this and invited me and my friends to join them in their living room to watch this on their television!" - Arlene Ureneck DiFabio
