Berkeley Resident Restrains Home Intruder: Police
The same man burglarized 11 vehicles in the Holiday City and Silver Ridge Park senior communities, police reported last month.

BERKELEY, NJ — A Berkeley resident restrained a home intruder Oct. 3 before police arrived to arrest the suspect, according to authorities. Thomas Sloan was still inside the victim's home when the resident informed police, officials said.
Once authorities arrived, the victim restrained Sloan in the backyard of the Chain Boulevard home, police said. Sloan was charged with burglary, simple assault, theft by unlawful taking, criminal mischief and criminal trespass, police said.
Sloan, 33, of Berkeley, was taken to Ocean County Jail, police said.

In September, Sloan was charged with stealing from 11 Berkeley vehicles, police said. He unlocked vehicles at night in the Holiday City and Silver Ridge Park senior communities, according to police. Hit-and-Run, DWI
Police responded to a report of a hit-and-run Oct. 13. Robert Guerci was driving while under the influence, according to police.
Guerci, 67, of Berkeley, was charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident and careless driving, police said. It was not immediately clear what he crashed into.
Guerci was processed at police headquarters and released. His vehicle was impounded as per John's Law.
Police Rescue
Berkeley police rescued a male stuck in the mud Sept. 21. The male was crabbing and fell into the marsh. He sunk 3 feet deep and wasn't able to get out.
Patrolman Chris Elliott and Sergeant John Houghkirk responded to the scene at Bayview Avenue, where the fire department assisted. Officials examined the male for first aid, finding no injuries.
