Berkeley Residents, Watch Out For Phony Comcast, Xfinity Calls

In some cases, the scammer spoofs the phone numbers of Comcast and Xfinity.

BERKELEY, NJ — Several Ocean County police departments warned of a phone scam in which the caller pretends to represent Comcast or Xfinity. The scam has circulated around Ocean County, according to officials.

The scammer will contact a victim offering upgraded television service. The caller will then ask the customer to purchase gift cards and give the gift-card info to the person claiming to represent the cable companies.

In some cases, the caller spoofs the phone numbers of Comcast and Xfinity, so it looks like someone from those companies is really calling.

No matter what a caller tells you, don't purchase gift cards and supply them with that information. In most cases, the gift-card company won't refund the victim.
