Berkeley Township Honors Italian Heritage Month

The Italian flag will be flown at Veterans Park through October.

BERKELEY, NJ — Berkeley's Italian flag-raising took place this weekend. Members of the Holiday City Silver Ridge Park Italian American Club of Berkeley Township attended the flag-raising ceremony.

The flag will be flown through October, which Berkeley recognizes as Italian Heritage Month. Berkeley has one of the largest Italian populations in Ocean County.

"I'm proud to honor Italian Americans today as we recognize October as Italian American Month and thank the generations of Italian Americans who have helped shape our society and steer the course of our history," said Mayor Carmen F. Amato.

Amato and council members Tom Grosse, John Bacchione, Sophia Gingrich, Keith Buscio and Jim Byrnes joined the local Italian American club for the ceremony.
