Scores from Monday's games

The Central Regional girls soccer team opened their 2011 season with a resounding victory Monday over Shore Conference Class B South rival Brick, beating the Dragons 4-0 in Bayville.

Freshman Amanda Carolan scored a pair of goals to bookend tallies by  seniors Samantha Jensen and Kristina Buhagiar as the Golden Eagles (1-0, 1-0) broke open a game that was scoreless at halftime.

Central applied relentless pressure, recording 24 shots overall, and had numerous scoring opportunities that Brick (0-1, 0-1) turned aside until the 53rd minute, when Carolan took a feed from Brittni Calleo and drove it past a diving Nikki Fasano. Three minutes later Jensen made it 2-0 when she took a cross from Courtney Mahnken and knocked to Fasano's left inside the post from about 8 yards out.

In the 67th minute, Central was awarded a direct kick from about 40 yards out and Buhagiar lofted a high shot that dropped in under the crossbar to seal the game. Then Carolan added the icing, touching home a nice little finesse shot of a rebound off a Brick defender. Chelsea Salvemini had the assist.

Central keeper Tianna Worden had seven saves. The Golden Eagles next face Pinelands in Bayville on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m.

In girls tennis, Central improved to 2-0 overall and in Class B South, defeating Pinelands 4-1 in Bayville. Hazel Guerrero and Daye Ju won at second and third singles, respectively, and the doubles teams of Maianne Paulin and Nicole Leicht at first doubles and Brianna Sgro and Marie Magliocco at second also were victorious. 

The Golden Eagles travel to Lacey on Wednesday to take on the Lions at 3:45 p.m.

In boys soccer, the Golden Eagles traveled to Brick for their season opener. After 90 scoreless minutes, the Dragons found the back of Central's net for the victory in Class B South. Central travels to Little Egg Harbor on Wednesday to take on the Wildcats at 3:45 p.m.
