Central Regional's Carolan Reaches Century Mark In Career Goals

The senior forward scored a natural hat trick in the Golden Eagles' 3-0 victory over Barnegat

Central Regional’s Amanda Carolan needed three goals to reach 100 for her career going into Monday’s Shore Conference Class B South game against Barnegat.

Three goals is what she got, and reached the century mark for her career with a hat trick in a 3-0 victory on Senior Day.

But the Bengals made her -- and the Golden Eagles -- work for them.

After a first half where Carolan’s shots were limited by a tenacious effort by the Barnegat defense and some timely saves by goalkeeper Emily Calderon, she was finally able to break through in the second half.

Her first goal came about 5 minutes into the second half, when she was able to take a pass from Gianna Argento at the top of the 18, turn and chip it just inside the near post past Calderon.

The second goal came 10 minutes later, when Carolan collected a loose ball just outside the 18, touched it into the right side of the box past a Barnegat defender and drilled it into the netting on the far side of the goal.

The milestone came about 25 minutes in. Ashley Dellapietro sent a through ball from just into Central’s side of midfield that Carolan gathered, took a couple of dribbles and shot from left to the far post.

Central had plenty of chances in the first half, but Calderon seemed to always be where the ball was going -- and when she wasn’t, the crossbar or the post did the job for her.

Barnegat was able to get a handful of shots off in the second half, but Noah Smith handled what they gave her to get the shutout.
