Coastal Ocean Beach Report For July 6, 2016

Nice beach day ahead, but Code Orange air quality alert issued.

The National Weather Service is calling for sunny skies today with highs in the upper 80s.

Beach winds will be from the south at 5 to 10 miles per hour. The water temperature has cooled down a bit, to 68 degrees.

The surf will be about three feet high with south swells around two feet The rip current risk is low, but strong currents can still occur near piers and jetties and are possible in other areas, especially during low tide.

Swim only where guards are present and discuss any surf zone hazards with them. There is no lightning threat today.

Bring the sunscreen. The UV index is a 10 today, which is very high. Unprotected skin will be damaged and can burn quickly. Minimize sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

A Code Orange air quality alert has been issued. That means some areas may become unhealthy for sensitive groups, including children, people with asthma, heart disease, lung disease and the elderly. Avoid strenuous activity or outdoor exercise.

High tide at Barnegat Inlet will be at 9:53 a.m., followed by low tide at 4:02 p.m. High tide tonight will arrive at 10:08 p.m.
